Adult Adoptee Retreat

Our first Adult Adoptee Retreat, held in the summer of 2015, was a great success! 50 adult adoptees gathered for a day in Boulder, CO to learn, explore, share, and socialize together — it was a retreat created by, for, and about adult adoptees. We are thrilled to share that Heritage Camps for Adoptive Family will again be hosting the second annual Adult Adoptee Retreat in the summer of 2016. It was overwhelmingly apparent that this retreat needed to be longer than one day, so we are expanding the length next year. The location is to be determined, but it wil be somewhere in the Denver metropolitan area with easy access to the airport, hotels, etc.

Our 2016 theme “It Takes A Village” highlights that by giving space and time for adult adoptee perspectives, we not only support their evolving needs, but build a community of empowered adults that will benefit all. It is through our shared investment, compassion, and curiosity that we will better understand the lifespan needs of adoptees and the unique gifts held within. The annual retreat hosts adoptee speakers from a variety of perspectives that not only address the faced challenges, but also emphasizes the gifts and celebrations.

AAR will be offering year-​long programs, such as a blog, podcast, and social events to further understand the individual experiences, needs, and expressions of adult adoptees (18+). As an adoptee herself, the current AAR Director, Corissa J.S. Gold, MFA,ATR,LPC is interested in hearing from YOU on any and all topics pertaining to our community at large. Please feel free to share your thoughts, questions, needs, interests, and frustrations with her in hopes that we all benefit from each other’s strengths, challenges, and insights. We look forward to sharing the 2016 programs!
