Indian Nepalese Heritage Camp
July 7, 2016 - July 10, 2016
For more than 20 years, families from across the country have gained a fuller appreciation of India and Nepal’s beautiful culture at Indian/Nepalese Heritage Camp (INHC). Friendships are created, strengthened and renewed each year — friendships that endure across the miles. INHC, the second of eleven camps developed by the highly respected Heritage Camps for Adoptive Families non-profit organization, is a family camp with programming for each member of the family from ages 3 to adult. Childcare is available for infants and toddlers.
During camp, we explore the unique gifts and challenges that come from being mostly transracial adoptive families. For those few days in July, adults and children are with a sea of families who are just like them.
We celebrate the children’s birth countries, India and Nepal, and we also celebrate adoption as a culture of its own. The familiarity and sense of identity that comes with being with other families “just like theirs” is what bonds the children and their families and gives them a deep sense of belonging. The participation and contributions from Indian and Nepalese adult adoptees are invaluable to our campers, and to their parents as well. INHC also has a huge “extended family” of Indian and Nepali community members who provide unwavering support throughout the year and attend our camp.
