Korean Heritage Camp

June 15, 2017 - June 18, 2017

Korean Heritage Camp is the flagship heritage camp, and we are so excited to be commemorating 25 years in 2016!!

We had a very successful 25th Year Celebration in 2016 – with nearly 800 participants, including adoptive families, our amazing volunteer counselors, and outstanding workshop leaders and presenters! To review the 2016 schedule and workshop descriptions, please contact us directly, and we will be happy to send you the materials.
We continue to strengthen and grow our community with even more families than ever in our 26–year history, our wonderful counselors (many of whom were once campers themselves), alumni, countless special guests, and all the Korean community volunteers who help make it the most authentic cultural experience.

Again we have fun family activities available to share together on Thursday afternoon, followed by a family BBQ, and an always amazing Opening Ceremony. Friday morning we then hit the ground running with workshops and activities.

Our Korean immersion activities and workshops are for all age groups at camp, and our parent workshops are on a par with most major adoption conferences. Everyone works together to make camp successful, so there are many opportunities to get to know other families that share in the adoption experience. Here, experienced parents and older adoptees are always willing to share helpful information with the next generation. Everyone loves to see our littlest campers as well, with childcare and preschool opportunities that allow even the newest adoptive parents to fully participate.

With the help of our dedicated local Korean community volunteers, our special guests, awesome counsellors, and of course, our families, 2017 will be another year to remember for sure! Watch our site for updates as we confirm workshops, special guests, and activities that will keep us all connected to our children’s Korean identities.

As always, we will explore the unique gifts and challenges that come with being transracial adoptive families. As our children grow, they will be dealing with issues faced by every child of color, no matter their country of birth. At camp, our children are with families just like theirs and they are surrounded by campers, counselors and community members who look like them. We enthusiastically celebrate their birth county, and we also celebrate adoption as a culture of its own. The impact and importance of being with families “just like theirs” at camp cannot be understated. It creates bonds between our children and our families that may not easily found in our communities and other areas of our daily lives.
